Selection Procedure – Overview
Phase I – Preliminary Exam (Online)
Test goal: 100 points, one hour flat.
English test – 30 points in about 20 minutes
Thinking skills – 35 points in just 20 minutes
Math Skills – 35 points in 20 mins
Candidates need to hit passing scores in every part. Around 20 times the open spots – depending on what’s available – will move on to the next stage.
Phase II – Main Exam (Online)
Generalists face an objective exam – worth 200 points – that lasts two and a half hours; then comes a descriptive part for 74 more, taking only thirty minutes where you type an essay plus précis in English. The first test splits into chunks: one on logic puzzles, another on language skills, followed by general knowledge, math problems, along with basic computer know-how.
Hindi Officers: Objective exam worth 200 marks, lasts two hours; then a descriptive part for 50 marks, takes one hour instead. Tasks include essays, letters, translations – some in English, others in Hindi. Knowing how to type in Hindi is necessary, using either Inscript or Remington layout.
The descriptive exam gets written online right after the multiple-choice one. It might just need a passing score based on what’s stated in the notice.
Interview
Candidates picked after the Main round get invited to interviews – around three times the number of open spots in each group. The final score combines Main exam results plus interview performance, counting 80% from Main, 20% from interview. A passing mark for the interview is decided later by the company.
Negative scoring means you lose a quarter point per incorrect response in multiple-choice exams – if it counts.
Application Fee (Non-refundable)
SC / ST / PwBD: ₹250 (intimation charges)
All others pay ₹1000 – covers application cost along with GST
Pay via internet methods like cards or net banking – UPI or wallets allowed too. Fees for transactions, if there are any, will fall on you.
